The
Thunder Rolls
Paula Shepard
Whispered words of love in the dark
tender confidences seen in the light
seering pain thru the soul
crystals on velvet skin
‘Weave a web of loving words,
Tangling body, thought and mind,"
Her world screeches to a halt
Her heart comes undone
His words of love
and in her heart.... the thunder rolls
"I will bind You.
Tie You tight with silken scarves,"
She ponders
that she was somewhere she never should have been
the difference?
as the lightening strikes
"as you drift off to sleep
hear the purring of the dragoncat"
Her heart, anguished, cries his name
Her soul, betrayed, drifts away
Her mind, numb, trembles
as deep in her heart...the thunder rolls
"for you and I have made love under
giant redwoods
and danced where there is no space or time……."
Maybe she's wrong- this can't be right
Remembered verses of love
writhing in the darkness-
the lightning strikes
"close your eyes, drift into dream
for I am on my way………….."
She closes her eyes
steeling herself against the pain
Escaping down the passages of her mind
The thunder rolls.
