The Place You Last Loved Me
By: Paula Shepard

I search for you there
the place you last loved me
our secret garden
How could you leave me here alone?
How could you leave me calling your name?

What is so important- those things that keep you?
Why do you not join me here where I await you- if only for a time?
Does not your heart call for me in the night
and your soul ache for my embrace?

Sunlight slowly dims to shadows,
the flowers here fading without your smile,
the trees wasting away without your touch,
the birds are slipping into silence,
even the dragonfly's are gone

Tears and loneliness are all I have left
wondering where you are and what keeps you so long
wandering, lost, alone
in the place you last loved me
