Basset Hound

Placed in private home that just lost their elderly basset after 3 months of looking for original owner

Rottweiler

Found on 3/20/05 at about 3pm in the country club area, Stockton, California- . I found her owner…took her back home twice and each time she was out within minutes and back on my doorstep. She was living in a slippery muddy sideyard with a jerry rigged doghouse all by herself with no attention save the bowl of food she got every evening. She had (notice I said HAD) unremoved stitches in her abdominal area that were about a year old from , reportedly, a pregnancy on her very first heat that went bad and she had to have the pups removed to save her life (least they did that much). She had spots on a back leg where she licked herself in boredom and frustration until there were sores. Her coat is dull and a bit dry and she WAS filthy dirty, nails unclipped….general neglect. He offered her to me saying he didn't want to deal with her behavior anymore (nevermind she had decided the same about him long ago apparently).

So now she belongs to me. She has had the stitches removed, a thorough bath, nail clipping, being fed a good quality food and she lives in the house like the other dogs. I am unsure whether I am going to keep her permenantly but what I do know is I am going to teach her to be a well behaved, pleasant companion. A dog that is well behaved and pleasant is worth it’s weight in gold and can command the very best of homes and care. She need not be ignored or neglected any longer. She is sweet but she comes with her share of issues to work through.
