3-6 Months
Well, Jaus is just about ready to recieve his last puppy shot (THANK GOD!) I always have a deep and abiding paranoia about Parvo and I feel that once the puppy shots are done that if you are careful things will be ok. He is due for his rabies at the end of the month which he will get along with his liscence. he will be going to obedience class at the end of February to learn how to get along with and work reliably around other dogs.
He now helps well with the laundry- while he is not big enough to jump up on the washer and put things inside..he does very well at dragging clean laundry out of the dryer and is a big help picking up dropped articles and following me to where I pile clean laundry for folding. He is also getting better and better at going away from me and retrieving things across the room (this is difficult to train as they don't see why they need to leave your side to perform a task because previously all tasks were done in close proximity to you). He is not perfect at it yet..but is finally getting the idea..I expect in the next month he will have the idea solid. He is also now working on the concept that what he grabs in a group of items may not be what I want and how to determine which one I want..this is also a difficult task. There is still nothing I have found he won't do...though standing in a show pose is annoying to him and I think he likes that the least. He is liking the water in the tub and likes to keep me company in the bath...soon the time is coming for the river..we'll see how he likes that and learning how to become comfortable in a swimming environment. He is now accepting his teeth being exposed and looked at as in a dog show with no complaints now. He is an almost perfectly behaved gentleman in public buildings and now is doing some off leash work in them....this has got a ways to go as he keeps getting distracted and has to be constantly reminded about where he needs to be...he does however do a passable sit and down stay while I roam back and forth up and down a section of the aisle. In all the tasks we still deal with the occasional stubborness and puppy distractability. This is just the function of being a puppy and will resolve itself as he gets older, and is nothing to get upset about...one must just use good sense..make him complete the task set before him and then ease off of him for a bit. WOOHOOOOOOO!!!! I think we finally have housetraining nailed now. Of course if not listened to he will get desperate and mess in the house....as any dog grown or not will when they can't hold it any longer, but he KNOWS now what he has to do and does it.
