Cuckoo Pens

The main non standard pen has become the main CUCKOO pen. I have some extremely nice dark cuckoo females in there- some nicer then any other hen on the property. I am working at making cuckoos in several colors including the normal black, blue, frosted and hopefully others. I maintain 2 pens for this color, one with a cuckoo rooster over solid hens, the other a solid rooster over cuckoo and solid hens..

Newest update 6-12-09 I have broken through the color barrier over the winter- at least mostly.
Pink skin is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
We have dark skin, beaks, and more mottled combs in the winter/spring birds -
waiting for one with all that and a dark comb
So far I only have a handful of babies as I got working on them late and sold alot of their eggs,
a very few come up with striped beaks, a couple have a more greyish skin that darkens some with age,
the rest have dark beaks, true dark skin, and a few of those have mottled combs.
The trend is towards what I am looking for- darker coloring.
Eyes are still very light- We'll get those later.

Cuckoo Silkies can come in various colors. The usual is the black cuckoo with a black base and white barring over the top of that. They can also come in any color overlayed with the barring. In the case of frosted silkies the patterning is reversed with a light base color and darker barring.

Other breeder Rooster in the pen for a bit - Dark beak and skin COMPLETELY

This is a daughter (I think its a girl) of the frosted cuckoo. Note the mottled face and the very black feet. Making headway every day.

Here is a better picture

This is what I am calling a peppermint silkie (not the greatest one colorwise I might add), this is a son of the frosted cuckoo Roo, unfortunately I lost this guy.

Cuckoo Silkie

10-16-08 Breakthrough, Dark skinned and combed hen but with light beak- almost there, we are dancing around it - we lost this girl to winter but not before she contributed some very nice babies. She was a very nice blue cuckoo.
